Tough Love is Tough To Do

April 6th, 2007 by Rhoda

I had to do it today. I found out that my daughter will have to be out of Dennis’s apartment by Monday. He finally couldn’t take anymore of the life going on in his place and went to his family for help and they went and gave Jami and Kirk the news yesterday. I called Jami’s father and he said he couldn’t take her in but that whatever happened he wanted Jami away from Kirk and I agreed. Their fighting likely has a lot to do with what drove Dennis to do what he did, and it was very hard for him being mentally ill. He had to run home for help and then wouldn’t take their calls until he was able to arrange a way to get rid of them.

I called everyone I could thing of today from the health department to local shelters. I heard a lot of conflicting opinions about MRSA, even the infectious disease center here sounded totally ignorant as they explained how non-contagous CA MRSA is. The shelters said they definitely couldn’t take her but at one of them, The Stephen Center, the man who answered was at least knowledgeable and told me to call Immanuel Hospital who told me that I had to call the Council Bluffs hospital where Jami had been seen in the ER and have her committed to their psychiatric department for not taking care of a deadly illness and to be withdrawn off of the meth and heroin. And that is what I intend to do and Jami called a little while ago and I told her all of the plan except that she will be committed at Mercy Hospital. She was upset that I hadn’t made plans that included Kirk and with the plans in general but I told her Kirk was welcome to check into the hospital with her. Everyone except the man at the Infectious Disease Center told me it was unsafe to bring Jami here with Jessalynn here.

I feel relieved the first statement has been made, I expect there will be arguing while I go load up her things to store this weekend, but I will stand firm although it will hurt. Talking so firmly today and hearing the wounded tone to her meek replies hurt. She didn’t argue today. She was freezing at a pay phone because Dennis’s family already turned off the phone and stunned to hear that I wasn’t going to take her and Kirk in. Her father, Jim, and Teresa had already gone to her house, were there still, to be with her when she heard the news from me, so at least she had them there to console her and, hopefully, stand behind me.

I will be thrilled if this all works and she goes to the hospital and can possible come out MRSA free. Drug free. Free. Pray with me. Pray for her.
