I was horrified reading this man’s story in Survival in Adaptation this morning. He writes of being infected by a woman who played down her disease outrageously so he wouldn’t be afraid to have relations with her. With all those around me with MRSA playing their illness down and trying to keep it a secret, his story is a nightmare come true to me. His story of being ostracized at work and treated like a leper is exactly what keeps many people silent but then again I feel that people like his girlfriend should be ostracized and more, i.e. faced with criminal charges. Besides some bad human tendencies, I’m sure that the people who tortured Wally also did it out of some kind of fear. Maybe they feel distanced from MRSA by creating a distance with Wally’s plight. I think he is a brave and caring man to share his story with us all and pray that he and his son stay outbreak free. With faith, Hope, and Love, Rhoda
