MRSA & Meth
I was reading today in the MRSA Watch site about the connection of Meth users and MRSA going farther than just being transferred by needle sharing because a large percentage of their study group smoked or snorted the Meth instead of injection it leading them to believe that it could be in part due to the fact that Meth makes the skin feel “crawly” so Meth users often scratch obsessively leaving abrasions on their skin that leave them more likely to contract MRSA. I would think also that their immune systems are greatly compromised by this drug as it seems to devour humans all by itself. I know lifetime meth users that are just walking skeletons with bad or no teeth. I asked my doctor once about Meth destroying teeth and she said “And just think, the teeth are the hardest substance in the body!” This makes Meth seem like a bigger killer than MRSA since I haven’t yet heard of MRSA eating teeth although it can and does devour bone. What is my point here… I think it is that if you are terrified of the things you hear about MRSA and you use Meth you should be just as afraid of the Meth as the MRSA and having both problems could likely be fatal. Not only that, the infected skin abrasions can so easily infect those around you that you are a walking bomb with MRSA using Meth. I have heard that 60% of the population in Iowa use Meth and if that is near correct we here are in worse trouble than I’ve even seen yet! Please, if you are reading this and it is about you, maybe this could be the one thing left to help you to seek help to get off of Meth. Most communities have programs in place to help with this even if they don’t have programs for MRSA victims so USE THEM before you need the MRSA facilities that we are still hoping for. Faith, love and hope for you all! Rhoda
